요즈음 세계 곳곳에서 대한민국에 대한 긍정적인 예언과 전망이 들려온다.
어떤 이는 한국이 영적인 중심이 될 것이라 말하고, 어떤 이는 문화와 기술과 정신이 결합된 새로운
문명의 모델이 한국에서 나올 것이라 말한다.
물론 예언은 과학처럼 증명되는 것이 아니다. 그러나 예언이 사람들의 마음속에 반복해서 떠오른다는
것은, 그 시대의 무의식이 어떤 방향을 바라보고 있다는 뜻일 수 있다.
나는 요즘 대한민국을 바라보며 한 가지 생각을 자주 한다.
“이 나라는 정말 이상한 나라다.”
전쟁의 폐허 위에서 일어났고, 가난의 굴레를 뚫고 산업국가가 되었으며, 독재와 억압을 지나 민주주의
를 세웠고, 이제는 작은 반도 국가가 음악, 드라마, 영화, 음식, 미용, 기술, 반도체, 인공지능을 통해
세계인의 일상 속으로 깊숙이 들어가고 있다.
더 놀라운 것은 우리 국기다. 세계의 수많은 국기 가운데 대한민국의 태극기만큼 우주의 근본 원리를
직접적으로 담고 있는 국기는 드물다. 태극기는 단순히 국가를 표시하는 깃발이 아니다. 흰 바탕, 태극
문양, 그리고 건곤감리 네 괘가 함께 어우러진 하나의 우주도다.
행정안전부의 국가상징 설명에 따르면 태극기의 흰색 바탕은 밝음과 순수, 평화를 사랑하는 민족성을
나타내고, 가운데 태극 문양은 음과 양의 조화를 상징한다. 또한 우주 만물이 음양의 조화로 생명을 얻고
발전한다는 대자연의 진리를 표현한 것이라고 설명한다. 네 모서리의 건곤감리 역시 하늘, 땅, 물, 불을
상징하며 태극을 중심으로 조화를 이룬다.
이것이 과연 우연일까.
우연이라기보다, 우리 민족의 깊은 무의식 속에 이미 하늘과 땅, 물과 불, 음과 양을 하나로 보려는 정신이
흐르고 있었다고 보는 편이 더 자연스럽다. 태극기는 정치의 산물이기 이전에 철학의 깃발이고, 철학의
깃발이기 이전에 생명의 깃발이다.
태극의 붉은색은 양이다. 하늘로 솟아오르는 기운, 밝음, 의지, 창조, 정의, 태양, 깨어남의 힘이다.
푸른색은 음이다. 품어주는 기운, 깊음, 인내, 물, 밤, 생명을 길러내는 어머니의 힘이다. 양만 있으면
타버리고, 음만 있으면 정체된다. 불만 있으면 메마르고, 물만 있으면 흐트러진다. 그래서 태극은 말한다.
“대립하지 말라. 돌아가라. 조화를 이루라.”
대한민국의 지난 70여 년을 돌아보면, 우리는 끊임없이 이 음양의 균형을 찾아온 나라였다. 전쟁 이후
생존을 위해 달려야 했던 시기에는 강한 양의 추진력이 필요했다. 산업화의 속도, 수출의 의지, 교육열,
경쟁심은 대한민국을 가난에서 끌어올린 거대한 불이었다.
그러나 그 과정에서 그늘도 생겼다. 지역 갈등, 이념 갈등, 세대 갈등, 지나친 경쟁, 물질 중심의 가치관이
사람들의 마음을 지치게 했다.
그 뒤에는 음의 시간이 깊게 찾아왔다. 억눌린 것들이 드러나고, 감춰진 상처들이 올라오고, 사회 곳곳
에서 “정의란 무엇인가”, “공정이란 무엇인가”, “국가란 누구를 위해 존재하는가”라는 질문이 터져 나왔다.
어떤 사람은 이 시간을 혼란이라 불렀고, 어떤 사람은 어둠이라 불렀다. 그러나 주역의 관점에서 보면
어둠은 끝이 아니라 전환의 자궁이다. 밤이 깊다는 것은 새벽이 가까웠다는 뜻이기도 하다.
2026년을 기점으로 많은 사람들이 “무언가 달라지고 있다”고 느끼는 것은 단순한 감상이 아닐 수 있다.
세계 흐름을 보아도 한국은 다시 중요한 갈림길에 서 있다.
그러나 그 밝은 희망의 한가운데에서도, 이 나라의 공기를 무겁게 짓누르는 어두운 소용돌이가 있다.
좌와 우로 갈라져 서로를 물어뜯는 대립, 그리고 그 혼란의 틈에서 하나둘 드러나는 대통령을 비롯한
정치권, 경제권, 법조계 고위층의 부정부패와 불공정은 국민의 가슴에 깊은 분노와 탄식을 쌓이게 하고
있다.
권력을 맡은 자들이여, 부를 움켜쥔 자들이여, 법의 이름으로 국민 위에 군림하려는 자들이여. 그대들은
잠시 높은 자리에 앉았다고 해서 이 나라의 주인 위에 선 것이 아니다. 국민의 피와 땀, 눈물과 희생 위에
세워진 자리를 사사로운 이익의 도구로 삼았다면, 그것은 단순한 실수가 아니라 나라의 기강을 무너뜨린
중대한 죄과임을 알아야 한다.
스스로를 돌아보라. 그대들이 감춘다고 감춰질 것이라 여긴 거짓은 언젠가 반드시 드러난다.
그대들이 법의 그늘 뒤에 숨어 피할 수 있다고 여긴 책임은 끝내 역사의 법정 앞으로 끌려 나올 것이다.
민심은 오래 참을 수 있어도 영원히 침묵하지 않으며, 국민의 분노는 마침내 민심의 회초리가 되어 오만
한 권세의 등을 후려칠 것이다.
하늘은 더디게 묻는 듯 보여도 결코 잊지 않는다. 정의를 농락하고, 공정을 짓밟고, 국민을 속이며, 나라
를 제 욕망의 사다리로 삼은 자들은 끝내 하늘의 심판을 피하지 못할 것이다. 높은 자리는 방패가 아니며,
권력은 면죄부가 아니다. 부와 명예 또한 죄를 덮는 비단보가 될 수 없다.
대한민국이 다시 빛으로 일어서기 위해서는, 먼저 높은 곳에 앉아 나라의 기강을 흐린 자들이 무거운 책임
을 깨달아야 한다. 국민 위에 군림하려는 자는 더 이상 이 시대의 지도자가 될 수 없다. 이제 이 나라는 탐욕
의 어둠을 걷어내고, 역사의 법정 앞에 부끄럽지 않은 정의의 빛으로 나아가야 한다.
2026년 현재 한국은 글로벌 소프트파워 지수에서 11위에 올랐고, 브랜드·혁신·미래 성장 가능성에서 강점
을 보이고 있다는 평가를 받았다. 또한 세계지식재산기구의 2025년 글로벌 혁신지수에서 대한민국은 139
개 경제권 중 4위에 올랐다.
기술의 흐름도 예사롭지 않다. 2026년 6월 말 보도에 따르면 대한민국은 삼성전자와 SK하이닉스 등과 함께
AI·반도체 분야에서 대규모 투자 전략을 추진하고 있으며, 반도체·AI 데이터센터·로봇 산업을 국가적 성장축
으로 삼고 있다. OECD 역시 한국의 2026년 GDP 성장률이 2.6%로 강화될 것으로 전망하며, 반도체 수출과
민간 투자가 성장을 이끌 것으로 보았다.
문화의 흐름은 더 감동적이다. 한류는 이제 단순한 유행이 아니다. K-팝, K-드라마, K-영화, K-푸드, K-뷰티는
세계인에게 한국어와 한국인의 정서를 알리는 통로가 되었다. 한류가 문화외교와 국가 이미지, 관광, 경제에
영향을 주고 있다는 분석도 꾸준히 나오고 있다.
그렇다면 대한민국은 정말 세계의 리더가 될 수 있을까.
여기서 중요한 것은 “지배하는 리더”가 아니라 “비추는 리더”다. 태극기가 말하는 리더십은 남을 누르는 힘이
아니다. 하늘과 땅, 물과 불, 음과 양을 조화시키는 힘이다. 대한민국이 세계의 모범이 된다는 말은 군사력이
나 경제력으로 세계를 압도한다는 뜻이 아니다. 상처를 겪어본 나라가 상처 입은 세계를 이해하고, 분단을
겪은 나라가 갈등의 고통을 이해하며, 가난을 겪은 나라가 개발도상국의 절박함을 이해하고, 독재와 민주화를
모두 경험한 나라가 자유와 질서의 균형을 말할 수 있다는 뜻이다.
우리에게는 이미 그런 사상이 있다. 바로 홍익인간이다. 홍익인간은 막연한 고대 신화의 구호가 아니다.
국가기록원 자료에 따르면 홍익인간은 대한민국 교육이념으로 공식화되어 왔고, 교육기본법 제2조에도 인간
다운 삶, 민주국가의 발전, 인류공영의 이상을 실현하는 데 이바지한다는 취지가 담겨 있다.
“널리 인간을 이롭게 하라.”
이 한 문장만큼 대한민국의 미래 사명을 잘 설명하는 말이 있을까?
태극기는 우주적 조화를 말하고, 홍익인간은 인간적 실천을 말한다. 태극기가 하늘의 그림이라면, 홍익인간은
땅 위의 행동이다. 태극기가 원리라면, 홍익인간은 길이다. 대한민국이 세계의 모범이 되려면 이 두 가지가
다시 만나야 한다.
그동안 우리는 너무 오래 “잘사는 나라”가 되기 위해 달려왔다. 이제는 “바르게 사는 나라”, “서로 살리는 나라”,
“세계와 함께 사는 나라”가 되어야 한다. 경제만 커지는 나라는 강국일 수는 있어도 존경받는 나라는 되기 어렵다.
기술만 앞선 나라는 부러움을 살 수는 있어도 마음을 얻기는 어렵다. 문화만 화려한 나라는 인기를 얻을 수는
있어도 오래가는 등불이 되기는 어렵다.
진짜 리더 국가는 세 가지를 함께 가져야 한다.
첫째, 실력이다. 한국은 이미 기술과 산업, 교육과 혁신에서 세계가 주목하는 나라가 되었다.
둘째, 매력이다. 한류는 한국인의 감성, 이야기, 정, 눈물, 웃음, 리듬을 세계에 전하고 있다.
셋째, 도덕적 방향이다. 이것이 가장 중요하다. 실력과 매력이 있어도 방향이 없으면 그것은 또 하나의 욕망이
된다.
2026년부터 양의 시간이 살아난다는 느낌은, 어쩌면 이 세 번째 질문이 깨어나는 과정일지 모른다.
양은 단순한 공격성이 아니다. 참된 양은 빛이다. 감춰진 것을 드러내는 힘이다. 불의 앞에서 침묵하지 않는
힘이다.
무너진 질서를 다시 세우는 힘이다. 그러나 양이 독선이 되면 또 다른 폭력이 된다. 그래서 양의 시대일수록 음
의 지혜가 필요하다. 정의는 따뜻해야 하고, 개혁은 품격을 가져야 하며, 분노는 사랑을 잃지 않아야 한다.
태극기의 위대함은 바로 여기에 있다. 태극기는 어느 한쪽의 승리를 말하지 않는다. 붉은 양이 푸른 음을 밀어
내는 것도 아니고, 푸른 음이 붉은 양을 삼키는 것도 아니다. 서로 안고, 서로 밀고, 서로 돌면서 하나의 생명을
이룬다.
우리 사회도 그래야 한다. 보수와 진보, 남성과 여성, 노년과 청년, 수도권과 지방, 노동과 자본, 전통과 미래가
서로를 없애려 하면 나라는 찢어진다. 그러나 서로의 부족함을 채우면 그때 비로소 태극은 돈다.
건괘는 하늘이다. 대한민국은 다시 큰 뜻을 세워야 한다.
곤괘는 땅이다. 그 뜻은 국민의 삶 위에 뿌리내려야 한다.
감괘는 물이다. 위기 속에서도 지혜롭게 흘러야 한다.
이괘는 불이다. 어둠을 밝히는 문명과 정신의 등불이 되어야 한다.
이 네 가지가 태극을 중심으로 조화를 이룰 때, 대한민국은 단순한 국가가 아니라 하나의 메시지가 된다.
세계는 지금 지쳐 있다. 전쟁과 기후위기, 빈부격차, 인공지능의 불안, 민주주의의 피로, 정신적 고립이 곳곳
에서 번지고 있다. 물질은 풍요로워졌지만 마음은 더 외로워졌다. 정보는 넘치지만 지혜는 부족하다.
연결은 쉬워졌지만 신뢰는 약해졌다.
이런 시대에 한국이 줄 수 있는 선물은 무엇일까.
나는 그것이 “상처를 노래로 바꾸는 힘”이라고 생각한다. 우리는 아픔을 그냥 묻어두지 않았다. 노래로 만들고,
드라마로 만들고, 영화로 만들고, 음식으로 나누고, 기술로 극복했다. 눈물을 콘텐츠로, 결핍을 창조력으로,
분단의 아픔을 평화의 갈망으로 바꾸어왔다.
그래서 세계인이 한국을 좋아하는 것은 단순히 음악이 세련되어서만은 아닐 것이다. 그 안에 이상하게도 사람의
마음을 건드리는 무언가가 있기 때문이다. 정, 한, 흥, 눈물, 해학, 끈기, 가족애, 운명에 맞서는 의지.
이것은 돈으로 단기간에 만들 수 없는 영혼의 축적이다.
하지만 우리는 착각하지 말아야 한다. 예언이 있다고 해서 저절로 위대한 나라가 되는 것은 아니다.
태극기가 위대하다고 해서 국민의 삶이 저절로 조화로워지는 것도 아니다. 홍익인간을 말한다고 해서 자동으로
인류를 이롭게 하는 것도 아니다.
상징은 씨앗일 뿐이다. 씨앗은 심고 가꾸어야 꽃이 된다.
대한민국이 2026년을 기점으로 다시 일어설 수 있다면, 그것은 누군가의 예언 때문만은 아닐 것이다.
국민 한 사람 한 사람이 마음속 태극을 다시 돌리기 시작할 때 가능하다. 내 안의 분노와 연민, 경쟁과 협력,
이익과 양심, 현실과 이상을 조화시키려는 노력이 시작될 때 가능하다.
정의로운 나라를 원한다면 나부터 정직해야 한다.
따뜻한 사회를 원한다면 나부터 한 사람을 덜 미워해야 한다.
세계의 모범이 되는 나라를 원한다면 우리부터 서로를 함부로 대하지 말아야 한다.
태극기는 오늘도 조용히 펄럭인다. 바람이 불 때마다 그 깃발은 우리에게 묻는다.
“너희는 조화를 잊지 않았는가?”
“너희는 빛을 두려워하지 않는가?”
“너희는 널리 인간을 이롭게 할 준비가 되었는가?”
2026년은 어쩌면 단순한 연도가 아닐 수 있다. 음의 시간 속에서 충분히 아파한 대한민국이 다시 양의 빛을 회복
하는 문턱일 수 있다. 그러나 그 양은 누군가를 무너뜨리는 빛이 아니라, 모두를 깨우는 빛이어야 한다.
대한민국의 미래는 태극기 안에 이미 그려져 있다.
하늘과 땅이 만나고, 물과 불이 조화를 이루며, 음과 양이 서로를 살리는 나라.
그런 나라가 된다면 대한민국은 세계를 지배하지 않아도 된다.
그저 바르게 서 있으면 된다.
그러면 세계가 바라볼 것이다.
작은 반도의 깃발 하나가 오래전부터 말해온 우주의 약속.
그 약속이 이제 우리 시대의 현실이 되기를 조용히 기도한다.
대한민국이여, 다시 일어나라.
그러나 높아지기 위해서가 아니라, 더 넓게 이롭게 하기 위해 일어나라.
그것이 태극기의 뜻이고, 홍익인간의 길이며, 앞으로 우리가 세계 앞에 보여주어야 할 진짜 양의 시간이다.
These days, positive prophecies and hopeful forecasts about the Republic of Korea are being heard from
many parts of the world.
Some say that Korea will become a spiritual center. Others say that a new model of civilization—one that
combines culture, technology, and spirit—will emerge from Korea.
Of course, prophecy is not something that can be proven like science. Yet when a prophecy repeatedly
rises in people’s hearts, it may mean that the unconscious mind of the age is looking toward a certain
direction.
Lately, as I look at the Republic of Korea, one thought often comes to me.
“This is truly a strange and remarkable country.”
It rose from the ruins of war, broke through the chains of poverty to become an industrial nation, passed through dictatorship and oppression to build democracy, and now this small peninsula nation is entering deeply into the
daily lives of people around the world through music, drama, film, food, beauty, technology, semiconductors,
and artificial intelligence.
What is even more astonishing is our national flag.
Among the countless flags of the world, few contain the fundamental principles of the universe as directly as the Taegeukgi, the national flag of Korea. The Taegeukgi is not merely a flag that represents a nation.
It is a cosmic diagram composed of a white background, the Taegeuk symbol, and the four trigrams—Geon,
Gon, Gam, and Ri.
According to the explanation of national symbols provided by Korea’s Ministry of the Interior and Safety,
the white background of the Taegeukgi represents brightness, purity, and the peace-loving nature of the Korean
people. The Taegeuk symbol at the center represents the harmony of yin and yang. It also expresses the great
truth of nature: that all things in the universe gain life and develop through the harmony of yin and yang.
The four trigrams in the corners symbolize heaven, earth, water, and fire, forming harmony around the Taegeuk.
Could this truly be mere coincidence?
Rather than coincidence, it seems more natural to believe that deep within the unconscious spirit of our people,
there has always flowed a desire to see heaven and earth, water and fire, yin and yang as one.
Before it is a product of politics, the Taegeukgi is a flag of philosophy. And before it is a flag of philosophy,
it is a flag of life.
The red of the Taegeuk is yang. It is the energy that rises toward heaven—brightness, will, creation, justice, the
sun, and the power of awakening.
The blue is yin. It is the energy that embraces—depth, patience, water, night, and the motherly power that
nurtures life. If there is only yang, everything burns. If there is only yin, everything stagnates. If there is only fire,
all becomes dry. If there is only water, all becomes scattered. And so the Taegeuk speaks.
“Do not oppose one another. Turn together. Create harmony.”
Looking back on the past seventy years of the Republic of Korea, we see that ours has been a country constantly searching for the balance of yin and yang.
In the period after the war, when survival itself demanded that we run
forward, the strong driving force of yang was necessary. The speed of industrialization, the will to export,
the passion for education, and the spirit of competition became a great fire that lifted Korea out of poverty.
But in that process, shadows also appeared. Regional conflict, ideological conflict, generational conflict,
excessive competition, and material-centered values exhausted people’s hearts.
Then came a deep time of yin. Things once suppressed began to surface. Hidden wounds rose into view.
Across society, questions burst forth: “What is justice?” “What is fairness?” “For whom does the nation exist?”
Some called this period confusion. Others called it darkness. But from the perspective of the I Ching, darkness
is not the end. It is the womb of transformation. The deeper the night, the closer the dawn may be.
From the year 2026, many people feel that “something is changing.”
This may not be a mere sentiment. Looking at the flow of the world, Korea once again stands at an important
crossroads.
Yet even in the midst of this bright hope, there remains a dark vortex pressing heavily upon the air of this country.
There is the division between left and right, tearing at one another. And in the midst of that confusion, corruption
and injustice are being revealed one by one among those in high positions—in politics, including presidents and
political leaders, in the economic sphere, and in the legal world. These things have filled the hearts of the people
with deep anger and lamentation.
You who have been entrusted with power, you who have seized wealth, you who seek to reign above the people
in the name of the law—know this: simply because you sit for a time in high places, you do not stand above the true owners of this nation.
If you have used positions built upon the blood, sweat, tears, and sacrifices of the people as tools for private gain,
then you must understand that this is not a mere mistake. It is a grave offense that undermines the very discipline
and foundation of the nation.
Look back upon yourselves.
The lies you believed could be hidden will one day surely be exposed.
The responsibility you thought you could avoid by hiding behind the shadow of the law will, in the end, be dragged
before the court of history.
The people may endure for a long time, but they do not remain silent forever. The anger of the people will finally
become the rod of public sentiment, striking the backs of arrogant power.
Heaven may seem slow to question, but it never forgets.
Those who mock justice, trample fairness, deceive the people, and use the nation as a ladder for their own desires
will never escape the judgment of heaven.
High office is not a shield. Power is not a certificate of innocence. Wealth and honor cannot become a silk cloth
to cover sin.
For the Republic of Korea to rise again into the light, those who sit in high places and have clouded the discipline
of the nation must first awaken to their heavy responsibility.
Those who seek to reign above the people can no longer be the leaders of this age. Now this nation must cast
away the darkness of greed and move toward the light of justice, unashamed before the court of history.
As of 2026, Korea ranked 11th in the Global Soft Power Index and was evaluated as strong in brand value,
innovation, and future growth potential. In addition, in the 2025 Global Innovation Index of the World Intellectual Property Organization, the Republic of Korea ranked 4th among 139 economies.
The flow of technology is also extraordinary. According to reports from late June 2026, the Republic of Korea,
together with companies such as Samsung Electronics and SK hynix, is pursuing large-scale investment strategies
in AI and semiconductors.
It is also making semiconductors, AI data centers, and the robotics industry central pillars of national growth.
The OECD also projected that Korea’s GDP growth rate in 2026 would strengthen to 2.6%, with semiconductor
exports and private investment leading growth.
The flow of culture is even more moving.
The Korean Wave is no longer a passing trend. K-pop, K-dramas, K-films, K-food, and K-beauty have become
pathways through which people around the world come to know the Korean language and the emotional world
of the Korean people. Analyses continue to show that Hallyu affects cultural diplomacy, national image, tourism,
and the economy.
Then can the Republic of Korea truly become a leader of the world?
Here, what matters is not a “leader who dominates,” but a “leader who illuminates.”
The leadership spoken by the Taegeukgi is not the power to press others down. It is the power to harmonize
heaven and earth, water and fire, yin and yang. For Korea to become a model for the world does not mean
overwhelming the world through military or economic power.
It means that a country that has experienced wounds can understand a wounded world.
A country that has experienced division can understand the pain of conflict. A country that has experienced
poverty can understand the desperation of developing nations. And a country that has experienced both
dictatorship and democratization can speak of the balance between freedom and order.
We already have such a philosophy.
It is Hongik Ingan—the ideal of broadly benefiting humanity.
Hongik Ingan is not a vague slogan from an ancient myth. According to records of the National Archives
of Korea, Hongik Ingan has been officially established as an educational ideal of the Republic of Korea,
and Article 2 of the Framework Act on Education contains the spirit of contributing to a humane life,
the development of a democratic nation, and the realization of the ideal of common prosperity for humanity.
“Benefit all humanity broadly.”
Is there any sentence that explains the future mission of the Republic of Korea better than this?
The Taegeukgi speaks of cosmic harmony. Hongik Ingan speaks of human practice. If the Taegeukgi is the
picture of heaven, Hongik Ingan is action upon the earth. If the Taegeukgi is principle, Hongik Ingan is the path.
If the Republic of Korea is to become a model for the world, these two must meet again.
For too long, we have run toward becoming “a country that lives well.” Now we must become “a country that lives
rightly,” “a country that helps one another live,” and “a country that lives together with the world.”
A country whose economy alone grows may become a powerful nation, but it is difficult for it to become a respected nation.
A country advanced only in technology may inspire envy, but it is difficult for it to win hearts.
A country whose culture alone is dazzling may gain popularity, but it is difficult for it to become a lasting lamp.
A true leading nation must possess three things together.
First, ability. Korea has already become a nation that the world watches in technology, industry, education, and innovation.
Second, attraction. Hallyu is conveying to the world the emotions, stories, warmth, tears, laughter, and rhythm of the Korean people.
Third, moral direction. This is the most important. Even if ability and attraction exist, without direction they become yet another form of desire.
The feeling that the time of yang is coming alive from 2026 may perhaps be the process by which this third question is awakening.
Yang is not mere aggression. True yang is light. It is the power to reveal what has been hidden. It is the power not to remain silent before injustice. It is the power to rebuild a collapsed order.
But if yang becomes self-righteousness, it becomes another form of violence. Therefore, the more an age becomes
an age of yang, the more it needs the wisdom of yin.
Justice must be warm. Reform must have dignity. Anger must not lose love.
The greatness of the Taegeukgi lies precisely here.
The Taegeukgi does not speak of the victory of one side. The red yang does not push away the blue yin.
The blue yin does not swallow the red yang. They embrace each other, push each other, turn with each other,
and form one life.
Our society must do the same.
If conservatives and progressives, men and women, the elderly and the young, the capital region and the
provinces, labor and capital, tradition and the future try to erase one another, the nation will be torn apart.
But if they fill one another’s deficiencies, only then will the Taegeuk begin to turn.
The trigram Geon is heaven. Korea must once again establish a great vision.
The trigram Gon is earth. That vision must take root in the lives of the people.
The trigram Gam is water. Even in crisis, we must flow with wisdom.
The trigram Ri is fire. We must become a lamp of civilization and spirit that brightens the darkness.
When these four harmonize around the Taegeuk, the Republic of Korea becomes not merely a nation, but a
message.
The world is now exhausted.
War, the climate crisis, the gap between rich and poor, anxiety over artificial intelligence, fatigue with democracy,
and spiritual isolation are spreading everywhere. Material abundance has increased, but hearts have become
lonelier. Information overflows, but wisdom is lacking. Connection has become easier, but trust has grown weaker.
In such an age, what gift can Korea offer?
I believe it is “the power to turn wounds into song.”
We did not simply bury our pain. We made it into songs, dramas, films, food shared with others, and technology
that overcame limitations. We have transformed tears into content, deficiency into creativity, and the pain of division
into a longing for peace.
That is why people around the world love Korea not merely because its music is sophisticated. It is because,
within it, there is something strangely moving that touches the human heart.
Jeong, han, joy, tears, humor, perseverance, family love, and the will to stand against fate—these are
accumulated layers of the soul that cannot be created quickly with money.
But we must not be mistaken.
A country does not automatically become great simply because there are prophecies about it.
The lives of the people do not automatically become harmonious simply because the Taegeukgi is great.
And humanity is not automatically benefited simply because we speak of Hongik Ingan.
Symbols are only seeds.
A seed must be planted and cultivated before it becomes a flower.
If the Republic of Korea can rise again from 2026 onward, it will not be merely because of someone’s prophecy.
It will become possible when each citizen begins to turn the Taegeuk within the heart once again.
It will become possible when we begin the effort to harmonize anger and compassion, competition and cooperation,
profit and conscience, reality and ideals within ourselves.
If we want a just country, I myself must first become honest.
If we want a warm society, I myself must hate one person less.
If we want a country that becomes a model for the world, we ourselves must stop treating one another carelessly.
The Taegeukgi still flutters quietly today.
Whenever the wind blows, that flag asks us:
“Have you not forgotten harmony?”
“Are you not afraid of the light?”
“Are you ready to broadly benefit humanity?”
The year 2026 may not be merely another year. It may be the threshold at which the Republic of Korea, having
suffered long enough in the time of yin, begins to recover the light of yang once again.
But that yang must not be a light that destroys someone. It must be a light that awakens everyone.
The future of the Republic of Korea is already drawn within the Taegeukgi.
A country where heaven and earth meet, where water and fire harmonize, where yin and yang give life to
one another.
If Korea becomes such a country, it does not need to dominate the world.
It only needs to stand rightly.
Then the world will look toward it.
One flag of a small peninsula has long spoken of a promise of the universe.
I quietly pray that this promise may now become the reality of our age.
Republic of Korea, rise again.
But do not rise in order to become higher.
Rise in order to benefit more broadly.
That is the meaning of the Taegeukgi.
That is the path of Hongik Ingan.
And that is the true time of yang that we must now show before the world.
