막힘의 시간, 그러나 끝이 아닌 시작
살다 보면 아무리 애를 써도 일이 풀리지 않는 시기가 있다.
사람과의 관계는 어긋나고, 노력은 결과로 이어지지 않으며,
마음속에는 답답함과 무력감이 쌓여 간다.
“왜 이렇게 모든 것이 막혀 있을까?”
이처럼 흐름이 끊기고, 세상과의 연결이 닫혀 있는 듯한 순간.
주역은 이때를 “비(否)”라 부른다.
천지비(天地否)
비괘는 다음과 같은 구조를 가진다.
☰ 상괘 : 건(乾, 하늘)
☷ 하괘 : 곤(坤, 땅)
겉으로 보면 매우 정상적인 구조다.
하늘은 위에 있고, 땅은 아래에 있다.
그런데 주역은 이 상태를 “좋다”고 보지 않는다.
오히려 “막힘, 단절, 불통”의 상태로 해석한다.
👉 왜 그럴까?
소통이 끊긴 세상
태괘에서는 하늘과 땅의 위치가 뒤집혀 있었다.
그 덕분에 서로 기운이 오르내리며 소통이 이루어졌다.
하지만 비괘에서는
- 하늘은 위에서 내려오지 않고
- 땅은 아래에서 올라가지 않는다
즉, 서로가 서로에게 닿지 않는다.
이것이 바로 비괘의 본질이다.
👉 “각자의 자리에서 멈춰버린 상태”
겉보기에는 질서가 있는 것 같지만
실제로는 아무런 교류도 일어나지 않는 정지 상태.
비(否)는 나쁜 것일까?
많은 사람들이 비괘를 보면
“운이 나쁜 시기”, “피해야 할 시기”라고 생각한다.
하지만 주역은 그렇게 단순하게 보지 않는다.
비괘는 말한다.
👉 “지금은 움직일 때가 아니라, 지켜볼 때다”
억지로 풀려고 하면 더 꼬인다
비괘의 시기에는
무언가를 강하게 밀어붙일수록 상황이 더 나빠진다.
- 설득하려 할수록 더 멀어지고
- 노력할수록 결과는 어긋나며
- 애쓸수록 마음은 지친다
왜냐하면
👉 흐름 자체가 “닫혀 있기” 때문이다.
이때 필요한 것은 행동이 아니라
“판단과 거리두기”이다.
군자의 태도 vs 소인의 움직임
주역은 비괘에서 매우 중요한 메시지를 전한다.
👉 “군자는 물러나고, 소인은 나아간다”
이 말은 단순히 착한 사람과 나쁜 사람의 구분이 아니다.
- 군자 : 흐름을 읽는 사람
- 소인 : 상황을 무시하고 밀어붙이는 사람
비괘의 시기에는
✔ 현명한 사람일수록 한 발 물러서고
✔ 어리석은 사람일수록 더 나아가려 한다
결과는 어떻게 될까?
👉 “무리한 전진은 더 큰 손실을 만든다”
비괘가 우리 삶에 나타나는 순간
비괘는 특별한 사람에게만 오는 것이 아니다.
누구나 인생에서 반드시 한 번 이상 겪는다.
예를 들어
- 사업이 갑자기 막히는 시기
- 인간관계가 이유 없이 틀어지는 순간
- 노력 대비 성과가 전혀 나오지 않는 때
- 운이 끊긴 듯한 답답한 흐름
이 모든 순간이 바로 비괘다.
그렇다면 어떻게 해야 할까?
비괘에서 가장 중요한 전략은 단 하나다.
1. 멈출 줄 아는 용기
대부분의 사람은 멈추는 것을 실패로 생각한다.
하지만 비괘에서는 다르다.
👉 “멈추는 것이 곧 지혜다”
괜히 움직였다가 더 큰 손실을 보는 것보다
지금은 상황을 관찰하는 것이 훨씬 중요하다.
2. 사람을 가려라
비괘의 시기에는
좋은 인연보다 잘못된 인연이 더 쉽게 다가온다.
- 달콤한 제안
- 빠른 성공 이야기
- 무리한 투자 권유
이럴 때일수록
👉 “거절하는 힘”이 필요하다.
3. 안을 정비하라
밖이 막혀 있다면
답은 언제나 안에 있다.
- 실력 정리
- 재정 점검
- 마음 정리
비괘는 말한다.
👉 “지금은 준비의 시간이다”
비괘는 언제 끝날까?
주역에서 중요한 원칙이 있다.
👉 “모든 괘는 변한다”
비괘 다음에는 반드시
다시 태괘(泰)의 흐름이 온다.
막힘은 영원하지 않다.
어둠이 깊을수록 빛은 가까워진다
비괘의 진짜 의미는 이것이다.
👉 “지금은 내려가는 것이 아니라, 바닥을 다지는 과정이다”
이 시간을 어떻게 보내느냐에 따라
다음 상승의 크기가 결정된다.

“지금, 당신은 억지로 밀어붙이고 있는가?

흐름이 막힌 것이 아니라
잠시 멈춰 있는 것뿐이라는 것을.
A Time of Blockage, Yet Not the End but a Beginning
There are times in life when, no matter how hard we try, things simply don’t work out.
Relationships fall out of sync, efforts fail to produce results,
and within our hearts, frustration and helplessness begin to accumulate.
“Why does everything feel so blocked?”
Moments like these—when the flow is cut off and it feels as though our connection to the
world has been sealed shut—
the I Ching calls this state “Bi (否)”.
Heaven and Earth in Stagnation (天地否)
The structure of the Bi hexagram is as follows:
☰ Upper trigram: Qian (乾, Heaven)
☷ Lower trigram: Kun (坤, Earth)
At first glance, this appears perfectly normal.
Heaven is above, and Earth is below.
Yet the I Ching does not consider this a favorable state.
Rather, it interprets it as blockage, disconnection, and lack of communication.
👉 Why is that?
A World Where Communication Is Cut Off
In the Tai (泰) hexagram, Heaven and Earth were reversed,
allowing their energies to rise and descend, creating harmony and communication.
But in the Bi hexagram:
Heaven does not descend from above,
and Earth does not rise from below.
In other words, they do not reach each other.
This is the essence of Bi.
👉 “A state where each remains stuck in its own place.”
Outwardly, it may seem orderly,
but in reality, nothing is flowing—everything is at a standstill.
Is Bi (否) Something Bad?
Many people see the Bi hexagram and think,
“This is a time of bad luck” or “a period to avoid.”
But the I Ching does not see it so simply.
Bi tells us:
👉 “This is not a time to act, but a time to observe.”
The More You Force It, the More It Tangled
During a time of Bi:
The more forcefully you push, the worse things become.
The more you try to persuade, the further people drift away.
The more effort you put in, the more results go astray.
The more you struggle, the more exhausted your heart becomes.
Why?
👉 Because the very flow itself is “closed.”
What is needed here is not action,
but discernment and distance.
The Noble Person vs. The Petty Person
The I Ching delivers an important message in the Bi hexagram:
👉 “The noble person withdraws; the petty person advances.”
This is not merely a distinction between good and bad people.
The noble person: one who reads the flow
The petty person: one who ignores the situation and pushes ahead
In times of Bi:
✔ The wiser the person, the more they step back
✔ The more foolish the person, the more they try to push forward
And the result?
👉 “Reckless advancement leads to greater loss.”
When Bi Appears in Our Lives
Bi does not come only to special people.
Everyone experiences it at least once in life.
For example:
A time when business suddenly stalls
Moments when relationships sour without clear reason
Periods when effort brings no results
A suffocating sense that luck has run dry
All of these are manifestations of Bi.
So What Should We Do?
In the time of Bi, there is one essential strategy:
1. The Courage to Stop
Most people see stopping as failure.
But in Bi, it is different.
👉 “To stop is wisdom.”
Rather than acting rashly and incurring greater loss,
it is far more important to observe the situation.
2. Be Discerning About People
During Bi,
harmful connections come more easily than good ones.
Tempting offers
Stories of quick success
Pressure to make risky investments
At such times:
👉 You need the strength to say no.
3. Strengthen Your Inner Foundation
If the outside is blocked,
the answer always lies within.
Refining your skills
Reviewing your finances
Organizing your mind
Bi tells us:
👉 “This is a time of preparation.”
When Does Bi End?
There is an important principle in the I Ching:
👉 “All hexagrams change.”
After Bi,
the flow of Tai (泰) will surely return.
Blockage is not permanent.
The deeper the darkness, the closer the light.
This is the true meaning of Bi.
👉 “This is not a descent, but a process of laying a firm foundation.”
How you spend this time
determines the magnitude of your next rise.
The Wisdom of Life That Bi Teaches
Bi asks us:
“Are you forcing things right now?
Or are you reading the flow?”
