제7괘 사(師) Hexagram 7: Shi (師 – The Army)
사(師)의 본 뜻은
사(師)는 군대, 무리, 조직, 집단을 뜻한다.
하지만 단순한 전쟁의 괘가 아니다.
The original meaning of Shi (師)
Shi means an army, a group, an organization, a collective.
But it is not simply a hexagram of war.
사(師)는
“사람이 모였을 때, 누가 앞에 서야 하는가”
를 묻는 괘다.
Shi asks:
“When people are gathered,
who should stand at the front?”
한 사람의 힘이 아닌 여럿의 힘이 필요할 때,
질서와 책임이 없다면 그 무리는 곧 혼란이 된다.
When the strength of many is needed rather than that of one,
if there is no order and no sense of responsibility,
the group soon falls into chaos.
사(師)는 통솔과 신뢰,

☵ 하괘: 감(坎, 물) Lower trigram ☵ Kan (坎, Water)
☷ 상괘: 곤(坤, 땅) Upper trigram ☷ Kun (坤, Earth)
땅 아래에 물이 고여 있는 형상. 겉으로는 평온해 보이지만
안에는 위험과 긴장이 잠재되어 있다.
Water pooled beneath the earth: it looks calm on the surface,
but inside it holds latent danger and tension.
그래서 이 괘는 말한다.
“군대는 늘 위험 속에 있다.
그러므로 반드시 바른 사람이 이끌어야 한다.”
So this hexagram says:
“An army always stands amid danger.
Therefore it must be led by a righteous person.”
힘이 아니라 덕이 먼저다. Power must follow virtue, not precede it.

“Do not gather people for selfish desires.”
