한달 후면 한민족의 큰 명절인 추석이 다가온다. 우리 땅에서 생산된 수확물을 정성스레 다듬어서

조상님께 인사를 드리는 감사의 날이다. 한가위, 중추절, 중추가절이라고도 한다. '한'은 '크다' 라는

뜻이고 '가위'는 '갚이'라는 뜻이 있으므로 한가위는 '큰갚음'을 의미한다.

즉 일년동안 자연이나 조상님, 생산에 동원된 일꾼이나 말이나 소에게 까지 갚을 일이 너무 많다는

뜻이다.

 

In a month, one of the biggest traditional holidays for Koreans, Chuseok, will be upon us. 

This is a day of gratitude, where people meticulously prepare the harvest from our land to pay

respects to their ancestors. Chuseok is also known as Hangawi, Jungchujeol, or Jungchugajeol.

The word 'Han' means 'big' and 'gawi' means 'gapi,' so Hangawi signifies a 'great repayment.'

This implies that there is much to be thankful for over the year, including nature, ancestors, and

even the workers, horses, and oxen involved in production.

 

이렇게 자연이 내려주신 은혜 및 그동안 돌보아 주신 조상님의 가호에 감사의 제를 지내는 뜻깊은

날이다.

 

Chuseok is a meaningful day when we express gratitude for the blessings of nature and the protection

of our ancestors. It's a time to honor these gifts through traditional rituals and celebrations.

 

이런 때 잘난 정치가 및 야야 국회의원들이 연출하는 정치극은 실소를 넘어 분노를 일으키게 한다.

넷플릭스 드라마의 각 정당에서 파벌싸움으로 서로를 속이고 힘있는 자가 없는 자를 정의라는 이름

을 앞세워 억압하며 심지어 조폭을 고용하여 죽이고 자살하게 까지 만드는 이 비정하고 추잡한

드라마가 오히려 전혀 허구가 아닌 실제 사실로 믿게끔 우리 곁에서 벌어지고 있는 정치 작태는

목불인견(目不忍見)이다.

 

However, amidst this season of gratitude, the political theatrics staged by self-important politicians and

lawmakers can provoke more than just a wry smile—they often lead to anger.

The power struggles and deceit within political parties, resembling a Netflix drama where the powerful

oppress the weaker under the guise of justice, and even resort to hiring criminals, are disturbingly real.

Such political antics make one believe that what should be fiction is unfolding as harsh reality right

before our eyes. It's truly something we can't bear to witness

In Korea, the term "alliance" (동맹) refers to a promise between nations to take the same actions to

achieve a common goal. In English, this is often translated as "Alliance" or "Union." 
Such alliances are foundational for maintaining international cooperation and pursuing mutual interests.

However, Trump's version of an "alliance" could be likened to "dongmaeng" (冬猛), meaning a severe

winter chill that blows away the heat of midsummer like a "northern cold wind." In English, this might be

expressed as "extreme cold" or "freezing cold."

태어난 시는 알수 없지만 일주를 보면 천간은 기토(己土)이고 지지는 미토(未土)로 기미일주이다.

21대.22대 사전투표에 중국이 개입한 선관위 서버 해킹에 대한 의구심에 대하여 적극적으로 국민들의

의심을 풀어주려고 노력한 사람도 보이지않고 윤석렬 전 대통령의 계엄을 가지고 왈가왈부(曰可曰否)

하면서 한쪽은 중국 간첩단을 체포하기 위하여 불가피했다는 입장과 이를 빌미로 민주당에서는 내란

이라며 윤대통령 탄핵 발의하여 감금을 시키고 6월 4일 이재명을 21대 대통령으로 만든 것이 오늘날

실정이다.

 

The perception that the United States regards us lightly may also be partly attributed to our government's

As domestic politics lost direction and became chaotic, a savvy Trump might have seen an opportunity to

exploit Korea's vulnerable systems.

 

By subtly provoking and observing the ensuing partisan conflicts, he could potentially gain an advantage

from the discord. This strategy might be perceived as leveraging internal divisions to extract benefits. 

 

"소잃고 외양간 고친다"는 말 처럼 대부분의 정치가들은 유감스럽다는 말과 함께 거듭나겠다는 말로

국민들을 우롱해 왔다.

우리나라 정치가들은 너무나 깨끗(?)하여 한번의 거듭남도 부족하여 일이 터질때 마다 수십번씩 거듭

나야하니 예수님도 혀를 내돌릴 일이다.

 

The saying "Closing the barn door after the horse has bolted" perfectly captures the tendency of politicians

to express regret and promise renewal only after issues arise.

This pattern can be seen as a way of misleading the public, as repeated scandals necessitate countless

promises of reform. The implication is that Korean politicians are so "pure" that they require repeated rebirths

with each incident—something even Jesus might find astonishing. 

 

저마다 이세상에서 가장 정의로운 사람들처럼 TV 에 나와 침을 튀겨가며 국민과 우리나라를 가장 사랑

하고 걱정한다는데 나라는 꺼꾸로 가고 있으니 도대체 이해가 안된다.

 

Everyone seems to appear on TV, passionately asserting that they are the most righteous people,

professing their love and concern for the nation and its people. Yet, paradoxically, the country seems to

be moving in the wrong direction, which is quite perplexing.

 

최고의 학부를 나오고 자칭 지도층 인사라고 하는 양반들이 어제는 서로를 원수처럼 욕하고 헐뜯더니

오늘은 반갑게 웃으며 악수를 한다.

참 묘한 세상이다. 구토를 나게하는 위선된 얼굴로 정치를 하니 잘 되겠는가?

 

It's indeed perplexing to see individuals who have graduated from prestigious institutions and consider

themselves as part of the leadership class, berate each other like bitter enemies one day, only to exchange

warm handshakes and smiles the next.

Such hypocrisy in politics can be unsettling and raises questions about the sincerity behind political actions. 

 

해외의 많은 국가들이 도덕심이 가장 강한 나라이며 살기좋은 나라라고 한국을 꼽고 있으나 아직도

많은 사람들이 이민을 가려는 이유가 궁금하다.

 

While many countries recognize Korea as a nation with strong morals and a high quality of life,

it's intriguing to explore why some people still choose to emigrate. 

 

국민들이 걱정없이 편히 살수 있다면 왜 머나먼 외국으로 떠나겠는가? 정작 이민을 가야할 사람들은

현재 정치를 책임지고 있는 잘난 사람들이다. 제발 똑똑한 그 머리로 다른나라가서 잘살기 바란다.

 

If people could live comfortably and without worry, why would they consider moving to distant countries?

The implication is that perhaps those who should be considering emigration are the leaders currently

responsible for politics. It suggests that these individuals, with their intelligence and capabilities,

might find success elsewhere and allow for a new leadership that prioritizes the well-being of the citizens.

 

우리같은 사람은 독하고 모질지 못해서 외국에 가서 살기 힘드니 세치 혓바닥으로 염라대왕도 능히 능멸

할 수 있는 그 솜씨를 십분 발휘하여 외국에 가서 사기도 치고 벼슬도 하여 자손 대대로 부귀영화를 누리는

For people like us who may not have the harsh resolve to thrive abroad, living overseas might be challenging.

However, those with the eloquence to sway even the fiercest judges should perhaps use their skills to succeed internationally—perhaps through business or politics—to ensure prosperity for their descendants.

This could ultimately benefit our people if these individuals choose to leverage their talents elsewhere. 

 

논어의 위정편에 보면 노나라 애공왕이 공자께 "어떻게 하면 백성들이 복종하겠습니까?" 하고 물으니

"곧고 올바른 사람을 등용해서 곧지 않은 사람위에 놓으면 백성들은 마음까지 복종하지만 반대로 부정직한

In the Analects, specifically in the chapter "Wei Zheng," Duke Ai of Lu asked Confucius, "How can the people

be made to obey?" Confucius replied, "If you promote the upright and place them above the crooked,

the people will submit willingly. But if you appoint the dishonest over the honest, the people will not obey."

 

또한 홍자성의 채근담에는 "도덕을 지키면서 사는이는 일시적으로 적막하되, 권세에 의지하고 아첨하며

사는 이는 영원히 처량하게 된다. 달인은 사물의 밖에 있는 사물을 보며 자신의 배후에 있는 자기를 생각

한다. 차라리 일시적인 적막함을 감수할 지라도 영원히 처량함을 당하지 않도록 할 것이니.."

 

In Hong Zicheng's "Cai Gen Tan," it is said, "Those who live by maintaining their moral integrity may experience temporary solitude, but those who rely on power and flattery will forever be pitiful. The wise see beyond the

immediate and contemplate the self behind their actions. It is better to endure temporary solitude than to suffer

eternal wretchedness." 

 

이와같이 사람을 등용할 때는 흙탕물속의 연꽃같은 정직하고 깨끗한 사람을 써야하고 등용된 자는 국민을

두렵게 알아 도덕을 지키는 모범이 되어야 한다. "보라! 이나라의 지도층에 있는 나리님들의 행태를..."

돈과 권력이 있는 곳에 그 더러운 몸통을 담궈보지 않은 정치가가 있었던가?

 

When appointing individuals to positions of power, it is crucial to choose those who are like a lotus flower

in muddy water—honest and pure. Those who are appointed should hold the people in reverence and serve

as models of morality. Yet, one might ask, "Look at the behavior of those in leadership. Is there a politician

who hasn't dipped into the murky waters of money and power?" 

 

이번 추석에는 정말 마음이 가난하고 깨끗한 사람들만이 쳐다보며 감사하는 보름달이 떠오르길 희망한다.

"달님에게 감사한 마음으로 소원을 빌 겸손한 마음이 없는 배부르고 거만한 잘난 지도층 여러분!

제발 이번 추석에는 달을 쳐다보지 말아주세요. 불쌍한 서민들의 애환을 들어주려다가도 당신들의 추잡한

This Chuseok, I hope that the full moon will shine down on those with humble and pure hearts.

This Chuseok, let the moon be a beacon of hope for those of us who may feel less fortunate.

Illness begins in places unseen by others but eventually manifests where everyone can see.

앞으로 정치하려는 사람은 대학수능 논술처럼 시험을 봐서 기본 소양이 있는 사람만이 이나라를 이끌어갈 수

있도록 법을 제정했으면 하는 바램이다. 1 차로 '국민윤리'를 시험치르게 하여 일정점수 이하인 후보들은 탈락

시키고 2 차로 불특정 다수의 국민들 중에서 무작위로 일정인원을 선출하여 그들이 면접을 보게하는 방법은

어떨지?

 

It would be interesting to establish a law requiring anyone aspiring to enter politics to pass exams similar to

the university entrance essay tests, ensuring that only those with essential competencies can lead the country.

For instance, a first round could involve a 'Civic Ethics' test, eliminating candidates who score below a certain

threshold. The second round could involve randomly selecting citizens from the general public to conduct

interviews with the candidates.

 

아마도 1차 시험 통과자(국민윤리 통과자)도 손에 꼽을 정도로 적을 것이다.

이런 어려운 과정을 통해서 선출된 사람들이어야 국민들이 인정하고 따를 것이고 정치의 질적수준 향상으로

선진국의 신사들과 어깨를 나란히 할 수 있을 것이다.

 

The number of individuals passing the first round, specifically the Civic Ethics exam, might indeed be quite limited. However, those who successfully navigate such a challenging selection process would likely earn the respect

and trust of the public. This could significantly enhance the quality of politics, enabling our leaders to stand on

equal footing with the distinguished figures of advanced nations. 

 

또한 정치인의 자녀들도 자기 부모들을 수치스럽게 여기지 않고 자랑스런 마음으로 일반 민초들과 함께 떳떳하게

사회생활을 할 수 있을 것이다.

 

Additionally, the children of politicians would be able to view their parents with pride rather than embarrassment.

They could confidently engage in society alongside ordinary citizens, knowing that their parents have earned

their positions through integrity and competence. 

 

마지막으로 국민에게 선택된 정치인들은 인터넷에 그 의 사진과 그의 어록을 일자별로 낱낱이 등재하여 자기 자신이

한 행동에 대하여 책임을 지우는 것을 의무화 하여야 할 것이다.

 

Finally, it should be mandatory for elected politicians to have their photos and statements documented online,

organized by date. This would ensure they are held accountable for their actions and words.

 

국민이 무서워 정치를 안하겠다는 사람이 많아졌으면 좋겠고 솟아오르는 둥근달을 쳐다보고 그동안 알고도 속아준

많은 국민들에게 큰빚을 졌다는 마음으로 속죄할 나리님들이 몇명이나 될지 궁금할 다름이다.

 

It would be ideal if more people were deterred from entering politics out of fear of the people's scrutiny.

As the full moon rises, one might wonder how many leaders will reflect on how they owe a significant debt

to the many citizens who knowingly overlooked their shortcomings.
