As the fervor of protests against President Donald Trump's administration
intensifies, Representative Al Green (Democrat, Texas) announced during a
"Hands Off" anti-Trump rally held in Washington, D.C., that he would introduce
articles of impeachment against President Trump within a month.
Where will the end of his reckless actions, which are making not only the U.S.
but also the entire world his adversary, lead?
During his high school years, he showed more interest in sports and social
activities than academics, and he particularly enjoyed sports like American
football and baseball.
(New York Military
At the age of 15, he enrolled in the New York Military Academy, a military
academy in New York, and studied there until 1970. It was here, amidst
strict training and discipline, that he grew, and this experience seems to
have laid the foundation for him to become president.
However, he pursued only strong power and pushed everything through
the force of authority, eventually sending the National Guard to Chicago
to demonstrate his overwhelming and unchecked power.
This ultimately sparked an enormous backlash from the public, with
simultaneous protests by 7 million demonstrators in over 2,700 locations
nationwide.
The area around Manhattan, New York, was also swept by the anti-Trump
movement, with peaceful marches where people chanted "Trump is not a
king" and criticized him for "destroying democracy."
In response, Trump mocked the protesters by posting a video of garbage being
dumped from an airplane, while simultaneously claiming he was not a king and
hinting at deploying the National Guard in San Francisco.
By doing so, he is mocking and threatening the majority of the citizens, leading
many to believe that he is an extremely dangerous leader steering America onto
a path of decline.
Even now, Trump should take heed of the fate of tyrants that history has
witnessed, repent, and re-establish the spirit of democracy that has been
undermined.
It is perplexing why he chooses to ignore the simple truths that "power cannot
go against the will of the people" and "a power that loses the people's support
cannot last long."
Throughout history, there have been leaders like Trump who tried to govern by
ignoring the voice of the people and using force, military, and fear.
While they may have seemed victorious temporarily, ultimately, they all met
the same fate.
Their magnificent palaces crumbled, the cheers turned to anger, and their
names were judged by history, branded with the label of 'tyrant.'
Hitler
In 1933, Hitler seized control of Germany, using the military and secret police
to dominate the world. While his mouth spoke of "national glory," his hands
were stained with red blood. Facing an inevitable catastrophe, he ended
his life in the Führerbunker. His empire turned into burning ashes, leaving
behind only the cries of millions of innocent souls.
Mussolini
Italy's Mussolini proclaimed, "Sacrifice for the nation," yet he built his dream
of an empire on the sacrifices of his people. Ultimately, he was captured by
enraged citizens, executed by firing squad, and his body was hung upside
down in a public square. It was a miserable end for a leader who once wielded
absolute power.
Louis XVI
Louis XVI of France was the master of the opulent Palace of Versailles,
but he ignored the cries of his starving people. As public sentiment surged,
he attempted to suppress it with military force, yet the fury of the populace
proved more formidable than the sword. When the guillotine blade fell,
France severed absolute power along with the king's head.
Ceaușescu
Romania's dictator Ceaușescu called himself the "father of the nation" while
using the military to oppress the people. However, a winter revolution turned
its guns on him. He and his wife faced a swift trial and were executed by firing
squad. A ruler who governed through fear ultimately fell in fear.
Qin Shi Huang
Qin Shi Huang, the first emperor of China, sought to tightly bind the world with
laws and military might. He burned books and suppressed ideologies, but he
could not halt the passage of time. During his expedition in search of the elixir
of life, he passed away, and the Qin dynasty he founded vanished after just
15 years.
History shows us that many tyrants have emerged, and they usually met tragic
ends. History teaches us the truth that power is not eternal and that regimes
sustained by violence and oppression are destined to collapse.
Yet, the audacious arrogance of those who, faced with this simple truth, continue
to push their people to the brink with reckless violence, is indeed disheartening.
Tyrants often wield absolute power and have a tendency to abuse it, but it is
evident that their power is never eternal. For instance, during the French
Revolution, Louis XVI wielded the power of an absolute monarch, but ultimately,
he was swept away by the tide of revolution and met his end at the guillotine.
This demonstrates that even absolute power can be powerless in the face of the
people's strength.
Additionally, while they often attempt to rule through fear, fear may bring about
temporary compliance but cannot foster genuine loyalty. The Soviet dictator Stalin
instilled terror in countless people through his iron-fisted rule, but after his death,
the Soviet Union quickly embarked on a path of change. It suggests that leadership
based on respect and trust is more important than ruling through fear.
Tyrants are often more threatened by internal enemies than external ones.
Emperor Nero of Rome faced internal backlash due to his tyranny and ultimately
ended his life by suicide. Internal discontent is prone to explode, becoming a
critical factor that can lead to the collapse of a regime from within.
Why do we fail to recognize that history often repeats itself? Even today, we see
leaders who abuse their power, and it is not difficult to predict their eventual
downfall. It is crucial to learn from history and avoid repeating past mistakes.
The fate of tyrants is not just a historical event but an important lesson for all
societies and individuals. Power must be wielded with responsibility, and
leadership without respect and trust can never endure.
By examining the common tragedies of tyrants, we can identify the following
shared causes and effects:
1. Ignoring public sentiment and ruling through fear leads to revolution
and rebellion.
2. Suppression of freedom of the press and thought results in internal
distrust and collapse.
3. Reliance on military power leads to military rebellion and regime collapse.
4. Extravagance and corruption trigger an explosion of public anger.
5. Isolated autocracy concludes with the leader's miserable end.
Power stems not from force but from trust. Power followed out of fear crumbles
like a sandcastle, while power followed out of belief stands firm like a rock.
Did not Hitler's empire, Louis's palace, and Qin Shi Huang's walls ultimately fail
to withstand the weight of public sentiment?
I wonder how President Trump would respond if asked:
"Are you truly not ashamed to be the President of the United States?"
"Do you make the people fear power for your sake, or do you fear power for the
people's sake?"
History will always provide the same answer:
"Power built on force collapses, while a nation built on hearts endures forever."
