푸꾸옥에서의 가족 여행은 시작부터 모험이었다. 우리 9명의 대가족은 손녀와 손자 두 명
을 포함해 비엣젯 항공을 타고 인천공항에서 출발했는데, 비행 시간이 5시간 30분 정도로
꽤 길었다. 좌석은 꽤나 협소했고, 좌석 등받이에 디스플레이 스크린이 없어서 아이들이
출발부터 실망한 눈치였다.
The family trip to Phu Quoc was an adventure from the start. Our extended family of nine,
including two grandchildren, flew from Incheon Airport on VietJet Air.
The flight lasted about 5 hours and 30 minutes, which was quite long.
The seats were quite cramped, and there were no display screens on the seatbacks,
which disappointed the kids right from the start.
늘 대한항공이나 아시아나항공 같은 FSC(Full service carrier)에 익숙했던 아이들에게는
당연한 반응이었다. 가격도 저렴했지만 한국 출발시간이 새벽 1시45분 이라 직장을 마치
고도 출발할 수 있고 하룻밤을 거의 비행기에서 보내니 도착하면 베트남의 시간이 한국
보다 2시간 늦어 오히려 시간도 벌고 여행할 수 있는 시간이 길어졌기 때문이다.
즉 한국시간으로 수요일 오후 3시30분은 베트남 시간으론 수요일 오후 오후 1시30분이
되는 것이다.
This was a natural reaction for children who were accustomed to FSC (Full Service Carrier)
airlines like Korean Air or Asiana Airlines. Although the price was cheaper, the departure
time from Korea was at 1:45 AM, allowing us to leave after work and spend almost a night
on the plane. Upon arrival, Vietnam's time is 2 hours behind Korea, which actually gave us
more time to travel.
In other words, 3:30 PM on Wednesday in Korean time becomes 1:30 PM on Wednesday in
Vietnamese time.
대한항공에선 기내 식사도 무료로 제공해 주었지만 비엣젯 항공에서는 기내식도 별도로
지불해야 했으니 괜히 손해보는 느낌도 들었다.
On Korean Air, in-flight meals were provided for free, but on VietJet Air, we had to pay
separately for meals, which made us feel a bit shortchanged.
베트남 여행시에는 2~300불 정도의 달러를 환전하여 준비하는 것이 종종 도움이 된 것
같았다. 기내에서 카드는 안되었고 신 컵라면과 생수는 달러로는 각 3불, 원화로는
6,000원을 받았으니 비싼 느낌이 들었다.
When traveling to Vietnam, exchanging around 200 to 300 dollars seemed helpful. Cards
were not accepted on the flight, and items like instant cup noodles and bottled water cost
3 dollars each, which felt expensive, especially when priced at 6,000 Korean won.
푸꾸옥에 도착하자마자 Delluna Spa & Nail의 차가 마중 나와 있었다.
델루나 옆의 heaven cafe 라운지의 짐 보관장소에 우리들의 여행가방을 맡겨놓고 델루나
스파로 이동을 하였다.
쇼핑등을 부담없이 짐 없이 즐길 수 있게 도와주니 사장님의 섬세한 배려심이 돋보였다.
Upon arriving in Phu Quoc, a car from Delluna Spa & Nail was there to greet us.
We left our luggage at the luggage storage of Heaven Cafe Lounge next to Delluna and
proceeded to Delluna Spa. The owner's thoughtful consideration was evident as they
helped us enjoy shopping and other activities without the burden of carrying luggage.
델루나에서 준비해준 시원한 에이드를 마신 후 간략한 질문서를 적으라 하는데 마사지를
중점적으로 받을 부위 및 원하는 오일향 및 마사지 강도를 강,중,약으로 선택하여 표시를
하라고 하여 '중'에 표기를 했다.
After drinking a refreshing aid prepared by Delluna, we were asked to fill out a brief
questionnaire. We needed to indicate the areas to focus on during the massage,
choose the preferred oil scent, and select the intensity of the massage—strong,
medium, or light. I opted for 'medium.'
20대의 젊은 아가씨가 와서 인사를 하며 마사지를 시작하는데 한국말도 어느정도 잘 했고
잘 알아 듣는것 같았다. 조그만 아가씨가 왠 손아귀 힘이 그렇게 센지 터져나오는 신음을
억지로 참으며 머리를 침상 밑 구멍에 더 쳐 넣으니 '아파요? 괜찮아요?" 하면서 반응을
살핀다. 그래서 그 아가씨가 무안할 까봐 견딜 만 하다고 하니 눈치 빠르게 좀 강도를 낮추
어 어깨를 주무른다.
A young lady in her twenties came over to greet me and started the massage.
She seemed to understand and speak Korean fairly well. Despite her petite frame,
she had surprisingly strong hands. As I tried to suppress the groans that nearly escaped,
I pushed my head further into the hole in the massage bed. She noticed and asked,
"Does it hurt? Are you okay?" Not wanting to embarrass her, I said it was bearable,
and she quickly adjusted, easing the pressure as she massaged my shoulders.
이곳의 마사지는 맨 처음에는 뼈가 부러질 정도의 고통으로 시작 하였지만 점차 몸이 부드
러워 지며 여행으로 지친 몸을 금세 회복시켜 주었고, 어느덧 코까지 골며 자고 있었다고
옆 침대에서 마사지를 받던 아내가 나중에 말해줬을 정도로 편안하고 훌륭한 솜씨였다.
손녀와 손자들도 스파의 편안한 분위기에 푹 빠졌다.
The massage here initially started with pain so intense it felt like my bones might break,
but gradually, my body relaxed, and the fatigue from traveling quickly dissipated.
It was so comfortable and expertly done that, according to my wife, who was getting
a massage on the bed next to mine, I eventually fell asleep and even snored.
My granddaughter and grandson also thoroughly enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere of
the spa.
스파를 마치고 나서 heaven cafe 로 이동하여 식사를 한 후에 킹콩마트에 들러 식료품과
음료를 구입했다. 그런 다음 우리가 묵을 New World Phu Quoc Resort로 향했다.
리조트는 기대 이상이었다. 체크인을 마치고 747호로 들어가니, 넓고 쾌적한 객실이 우리
를 반겨주었다.
After finishing at the spa, we headed to Heaven Cafe for a meal and then stopped by
King Kong Mart to purchase groceries and drinks. After that, we made our way to the
New World Phu Quoc Resort, where we would be staying.

뉴월드 리조트는 정말로 다양한 부대시설을 자랑했다. 바로 앞에 펼쳐진 Khem Beach는
해변 산책과 휴식을 즐기기에 안성맞춤이었다. 수영장과 워터파크는 아이들에게 특히 인기
가 많았고, 날씨가 덥지 않아도 물놀이를 즐길 수 있었다.
New World Resort truly boasted a variety of amenities. Khem Beach, which stretched out right in
front of us, was perfect for beach walks and relaxation. The swimming pool and water park
were especially popular with the kids, and they enjoyed playing in the water even when the
weather wasn't too hot.
어른들은 스파 & 웰니스 센터에서 온수 욕조와 사우나를 이용하며 피로를 풀었다.
아이들을 위한 키즈클럽도 있어, 그곳에서 새로운 친구들을 사귀며 즐거운 시간을 보냈다.
가족 단위 여행객에게는 정말 최고였다. 저녁에는 리조트 내 레스토랑에서 다양한 음식을
즐겼고, 아이스크림으로 디저트를 마무리했다.
The adults relaxed by using the hot tub and sauna at the spa and wellness center.
There was also a kids' club for the children, where they made new friends and had a
great time. It was truly perfect for family travelers. In the evening, we enjoyed a variety
of dishes at the resort's restaurant and finished off with ice cream for dessert.
다음 날에는 무료 셔틀을 타고 선셋타운과 혼똔섬으로 이동했다. 무료 셔틀 서비스 덕분에
이동이 편리했고, 새로운 모험이 우리를 기다리고 있었다. 혼똔섬에서는 아름다운 자연과
해양 생물을 가까이서 볼 수 있었고, 선셋타운에서는 일몰을 감상하며 하루를 마무리했다.
The next day, we took a free shuttle to Sunset Town and Hon Thom Island.
The complimentary shuttle service made getting around convenient, and new
adventures awaited us. On Hon Thom Island, we were able to get up close with
beautiful nature and marine life, while in Sunset Town, we ended the day by
watching the sunset.
특히 썬셋타운 근처 'CAI MAM BISTRO' 앞 테이블에서 펼쳐진 'Kiss of the Sea Show'
리허설도 멋 있었지만 본 공연은 너무나도 환타스틱 했으며 그야말로 'Once in a lifetime
Opportunity' 였다.

Town was impressive, but the actual performance was absolutely fantastic. It was truly a "Once
in a Lifetime Opportunity."
천 명이상이 운집하여 발디딜 틈도 없을 만큼 유명하고 진귀한 쑈이니 구경을 원하는 분들
은 뉴월드 리조트의 check in 카운터 반대편 부스에서 얼굴사진을 찍어 무료로 관람할 수
있도록 등록을 시켜주니 반드시 꼭 관람을 추천한다.
The show is so famous and rare that over a thousand people gathered, making it incredibly
crowded. For those interested in watching, I highly recommend it. You can register for free
entry by taking a photo at the booth opposite the check-in counter at New World Resort.
돌아오는 길에 야시장에 들러 길거리 오징어 구이와 과일 쥬스를 사먹는 재미도 쏠쏠했다.
On the way back, we also had the enjoyable experience of stopping by a night market to buy
and savor grilled street squid and fruit juice.
푸꾸옥에서의 모험은 계속되었다. 아침에는 리조트의 The Bay Kitchen에서 맛있는 식사를
즐기고, 사파리 동물원으로 향하는 조그만 버스를 탔다. 아이들은 동물들을 볼 생각에 이미
들떠 있었다.
The adventure in Phu Quoc continued. In the morning, we enjoyed a delicious meal at
The Bay Kitchen in the resort and then boarded a small bus heading to the safari zoo.
The kids were already excited at the thought of seeing the animals.
차량을 대절하여 9명의 우리 식구들이 가면서 이야기를 나누는데 운전하는 청년이 어찌
우리들이 한국인인지 알아보고 해드폰으로 '케데헌'노래는 물론 거나한 한국 트로트도
틀어주며 몸을 흔드는 센스도 보여 주었다.
As our group of nine chartered a vehicle and chatted along the way, the young driver
somehow recognized that we were Korean. He showed great enthusiasm by playing
"K-pop" songs as well as lively Korean trot music on his headphones, even swaying to
the rhythm.
사파리 동물원에 도착하여 트램 버스 줄에 서서 기다리니 주변사람들이 팔목에 종이띠를
붙이고 차례를 기다리고 있었다. 입장권을 구입하면 파란 새깔의 종이띠를 주는데 그것이
버스 탑승권 역할을 했으며 우리가 탑승한 트램버스 기사는 한바퀴 동물원을 다 돌아서
내릴 때가 되었는데도 아이들이 다리가 아프다고 미안하지만 한번 만 더 돌아 줄수 있느냐
하자 웃으면서 흔쾌히 승락을하는 호쾌함도 보여줬다.
Upon arriving at the safari zoo, we stood in line for the tram bus. People around us were
wearing paper wristbands while waiting for their turn. When you purchase an admission
ticket, you receive a blue paper wristband, which serves as your bus ticket.
As we completed a lap around the zoo, the tram bus driver was about to let us off, but the
kids complained that their legs were tired and asked if we could go around one more time.
The driver cheerfully agreed with a smile, showing his generosity.
내릴 때 3불을 손에 쥐여주며 고맙다고 인사를 하니 유쾌히 웃으며 여행 잘 하라는 말과
함께 사라져 갔다.
When we got off, I handed him 3 dollars as a thank you, and he disappeared with a
cheerful laugh, wishing us a great journey.
사파리 동물원에 도착하자마자, 우리는 호랑이, 사자, 원숭이, 기린, 코끼리, 코뿔소 등 다양
한 동물들을 만날 수 있었다. 아이들은 동물들에게 직접 먹이를 주고 쓰다듬을 수 있어 매우
신나했다.특히 원숭이는 아이들의 손에 들려 있던 과자를 순식간에 낚아채며 민첩함을 보여
주었다.
As soon as we arrived at the safari zoo, we encountered a variety of animals, including tigers,
lions, monkeys, giraffes, elephants, and rhinoceroses. The kids were thrilled to be able to
feed and pet the animals directly. The monkeys, in particular, demonstrated their agility by
swiftly snatching snacks from the children's hands.
코끼리에게 바나나를 줄 때는 조금 긴장했지만, 코끼리는 놀랍도록 젠틀하게 긴 코를 뻗어
바나나를 잡아 입으로 가져갔다. 아이들은 코끼리의 크기와 부드러운 행동에 감동을 받았다.
기린은 아이들이 손에 먹이를 들고 흔들자, 긴 목을 조용히 굽혀 입을 벌리며 다가왔다.
그 모습이 얼마나 우아하던지, 아이들은 기린의 커다란 눈을 보며 행복해했다
We were a bit nervous when giving bananas to the elephants, but they gently extended their
long trunks to grab the bananas and bring them to their mouths. The kids were impressed by
the elephants' size and gentle behavior. When the children waved food in their hands, the giraffes
quietly bent their long necks and approached with open mouths.
The graceful manner of the giraffes, along with their large eyes, delighted the kids.
쥐과에 속하는 카피바라는 아이들이 주는 먹이를 기다리며 쫑긋쫑긋 귀를 움직이는 모습이
귀여움을 더했다. 아이들이 등을 쓰다듬어 주자, 카피바라는 시원한 듯 기지개를 켰다.
그 모습에 아이들은 또 한 번 환호하며, 카피바라의 친근한 태도에 푹 빠졌다.
The capybaras, belonging to the rodent family, added to their cuteness by twitching their
ears as they waited for the food the kids offered. When the children petted their backs,
the capybaras stretched as if they were enjoying it. The kids cheered once again, completely
charmed by the capybaras' friendly demeanor.
사파리에서의 시간은 순식간에 지나갔고, 동물들과의 특별한 만남은 아이들에게 잊을 수 없는
추억을 선물했다. 우리 가족은 푸꾸옥 여행에서 자연과 교감하는 소중한 경험을 하며, 동물들과
의 따뜻한 순간을 마음속에 간직하게 되었다. 아이들은 돌아오는 버스 안에서도 동물들 이야기
를 멈추지 않았고, 다음에 또 와야겠다는 약속을 하며 행복한 미소를 지었다.
Our time at the safari flew by, and the special encounters with the animals gifted the kids
with unforgettable memories. Our family cherished the precious experience of connecting
with nature during our Phu Quoc trip, keeping the warm moments with the animals close
to our hearts. Even on the bus ride back, the children couldn't stop talking about the animals,
smiling happily as they promised to return someday.
푸꾸옥의 여행은 정말 다채로웠다. 뉴월드 푸꾸옥 리조트의 내부 시설도 우리 가족에게 많은
즐거움을 주었다. 특히 '더 허브(The Hub)'라 불리는 복합 다이닝 & 엔터테인먼트 공간은 우리
가족의 새로운 놀이터였다.
이곳에는 볼링레인, 프라이빗 노래방, 피트니스센터가 있었고, 당구대 와 탁구대, 각종 게임
기구도 마련되어 있었다.
The trip to Phu Quoc was truly diverse. The facilities at New World Phu Quoc Resort provided
our family with plenty of enjoyment. In particular, the complex dining and entertainment space
known as 'The Hub' became our new playground.
여자들과 아이들은 볼링을 즐겼다. 특히 스트라이크가 터질 때마다 환호성이 터졌고, 공이 거터
에 빠질 때는 "아이고!" 하며 웃음이 끊이지 않았다. 그 모습에 나도 덩달아 기분이 좋아졌다.
나는 아들과 사위와 함께 3구 게임으로 피로를 풀며 경쟁심을 불태웠다.
The women and children enjoyed bowling. Every time someone scored a strike, cheers
erupted, and when the ball rolled into the gutter, laughter followed with exclamations
of "Oh no!" Their excitement was contagious, and it lifted my spirits as well.
I joined my son and son-in-law in a three-cushion billiards game, fueling our competitive
spirits and unwinding.
한편, 해변가에 있는 워터파크는 또 다른 즐거움을 선사했다. 길게 구부러진 초록색과 주황색
슬라이드는 높은 철계단 위에서 출발했다. 보기에도 높이가 만만치 않아 걱정스러웠지만, 아이들은
용감하게 몇 번이고 슬라이드를 타며 즐거워했다. 그들의 웃음소리와 함께 스릴 넘치는 순간이
이어졌다.
Meanwhile, the water park by the beach offered another source of fun. The tall, winding green
and orange slides started from a high metal staircase. Although the height seemed daunting,
the kids bravely went down the slides multiple times, thoroughly enjoying themselves.
Their laughter accompanied the thrilling moments.
결국, 안 타겠다고 버티던 집사람도 아이들의 손에 이끌려 슬라이드를 타게 되었다.
그녀가 물속에 잠기면서 허우적거리는 모습에 사위와 세이프가드가 달려가 구조하는 일도 있었다.
그 순간은 살짝 아찔했지만, 무사히 끝나고 나니 모두 웃음이 터졌다. 이 경험을 통해 아무리 작은
물놀이 시설이라도 조심해야겠다는 교훈을 얻게 되었다.
In the end, even my wife, who had been reluctant to try the slide, was coaxed by the kids into giving
it a go. There was a moment of panic when she splashed into the water and floundered a bit,
prompting my son-in-law and the lifeguard to rush over and help her.
While it was a bit alarming at the time, once everything was safely resolved, we all burst into laughter.
This experience taught us the lesson that caution is necessary, no matter how small the water play
facility might be.
푸꾸옥에서의 시간은 이렇게 다양한 활동으로 가득 찼다. 가족과 함께한 모든 순간이 소중했고,
이번 여행은 우리에게 잊을 수 없는 추억을 남겼다.
Our time in Phu Quoc was filled with a variety of activities. Every moment spent with family was
precious, and this trip left us with unforgettable memories.
마지막으로 방문한 곳은 이탈리아의 '베네치아'를 본따 만들었다는 '그랜드월드'를 다녀왔는데
운하에는 곤돌라가 떠다니고 수로 양쪽으론 그림같이 아기자기한 상가들이 동화 속에 들어온게
아닌가 싶을 정도로 아담하고 예쁘게 서있었다.
The last place we visited was "Grand World," which is said to be modeled after Italy's Venice.
Gondolas floated along the canal, and on both sides of the waterway were charming,
picturesque shops that made it feel as if we had stepped into a fairy tale. The setting was so quaint
and beautiful.
아마 김포 장기동에 있는 '라베니체'도 '그랜드 월드를 따라 한 것 같으나 텅빈 상가를 생각하면
훨씬 떨어지는 느낌 이었다.
It seems that "La Venice" in Janggi-dong, Gimpo, might be an attempt to replicate "Grand World,"
but with its empty shops, it felt significantly lacking in comparison.
저녁먹으려고 찾다가 우연히 눈에 뛴 그랜드월드 근처에 있는 한식집 '쌈' 음식점에서 모처럼 한식
다운 음식을 먹을 수 있었다. 된장찌개, 순두부 찌개, 냉면등을 주문했는데 가격도 만원 정도로 적절
했으며 상추와 깻잎이 같이 나왔고 특히 찌개와 밥은 두사람이 하나만 시켜도 남을 정도로 푸짐하게
제공되어 가성비와 맛은 아마 푸꾸옥에서는 최고의 느낌 이었다.
While looking for a place to have dinner, we stumbled upon a Korean restaurant called "Ssam"
near Grand World, where we were able to enjoy authentic Korean cuisine for the first time in
a while. We ordered dishes like doenjang jjigae, sundubu jjigae, and naengmyeon, with prices
around 10,000 won, which was reasonable. The meals came with lettuce and perilla leaves,
and the portions of stew and rice were so generous that one order was enough for two people.
In terms of value and taste, it was probably the best experience we had in Phu Quoc.
이번 여행은 올해 11월에 사위가 미국 마이크로 소프트(MS)에서 워싱톤 포스트(Washington
Post,WP)로 직장을 옮기는 바람에 딸내 식구가 미국 워싱톤 DC로 다시 돌아가기 전, 모든
가족이 한테 모여 여행으로 추억을 남기자는 의미로 시작했는데 정말로 의미있는 여행이
되었고 귀여운 손녀, 손자들과 함께한 시간은 영원히 잊지 못할 것 같다.
This trip was initiated as a meaningful way for the entire family to gather and create memories
before my daughter and her family returned to Washington, DC. This move was prompted by
my son-in-law's job transfer from Microsoft to The Washington Post in November.
It turned out to be a truly significant journey, and the time spent with my adorable granddaughter
and grandson will be unforgettable.
특히 장난기 많은 소녀 '최유빈'의 할머니, 할아버니의 그림 이야기는 모든 식구들을 즐겁게
하기에 부족함이 없었고 모든이에게 사랑받기위해 태어난 영락없는 공주였다.
In particular, the playful storytelling of our mischievous granddaughter, Choi Yubin, about her
grandparents' drawings, brought joy to everyone. She is undoubtedly a princess born to be
loved by all.
"할아버지 하기에는 너무 주름이 없다"는 말을 듣고 다시 10년은 젊어지는 느낌이었으니 남
들이 소위 말하는 진짜 꼰대가 된 것은 아닌지 걱정이 된다.
When she commented, "Grandpa, you don't have enough wrinkles for a grandpa,"
it made me feel at least ten years younger, though it also made me wonder if I was becoming
what people refer to as an "old-school" grandpa.
언제 다시 만날 지 기약은 없지만 3년에 한 번씩은 만나서 또 다른 장소에서 멋진 여행을 꿈꾸며,
모든 우리 가족들이 늘 행복하며 즐거운 생활을 하면서 건강하기를 기원한다.
Although we don't know when we'll meet again, I hope we can reunite every three years to
embark on another wonderful journey in a different place. I wish for all our family members
to always be happy, enjoy life, and stay healthy.
