제1괘 ― 건괘(乾卦)
건(乾)의 본 뜻은 해가 뜰때 햇살이 퍼져 쾌적한 모습을 나타낸다.
우주를 구성하는 음양 2 으뜸요소 가운데 창조적인 활동을 설계하는
기능을 가지고 있으며 순수한 양기로 이루어진 가장 큰 것은 하늘이니
양효가 3개 겹친 모습으로 두 개를 중첩해 하늘의 이치의 변화, 기능
의 복잡함을 나타내고 있다.
The original meaning of Qian (乾) is the pleasant scene of sunlight spreading
as the sun rises.
Among the two fundamental elements of yin and yang that compose
the universe, it has the function of designing creative activity.
The greatest entity formed from pure yang energy is Heaven; it is represented
by two sets of three yang lines stacked together, expressing both the changes
in the principles of Heaven and the complexity of its functions.

2. 건괘의 뜻 The Meaning of the Qian Hexagram
**건(乾)**은 하늘을 뜻하며,
주역 64괘의 시작이자 모든 변화의 근원이다.
건괘는 여섯 효가 모두 **양효(⚊)**로 이루어진 순수한 양의 괘로,
창조·원동력·생명의 시원을 상징한다.
“건원(乾元)은 만물의 시작이다.”
하늘이 만물을 낳고 쉬지 않고 운행하듯,
건괘는 멈추지 않는 생명력과 주체적 시작을 말한다.
Qian (乾) signifies Heaven.
It is the beginning of the 64 hexagrams of the I Ching and the source
of all change.
The Qian hexagram is composed entirely of six yang lines (⚊), a hexagram
of pure yang, symbolizing creation, driving force, and the origin of life.
“Qianyuan (乾元) is the beginning of all things.”
Just as Heaven gives birth to all things and moves without rest,
Qian speaks of unceasing vitality and a self-initiated beginning.

“스스로 빛을 발하되, 하늘처럼 겸허하라.”
건괘의 힘은 강함 그 자체가 아니라
바름·지속·책임에서 완성된다.
- 시작할 수 있는 용기
- 끝까지 가는 인내
- 높이 올라갈수록 낮아지는 태도
이 셋이 함께할 때, 건괘의 참된 덕이 드러난다.
“Shine by your own light, yet remain as humble as Heaven.”
The strength of Qian does not lie in sheer power alone,
but is fulfilled through uprightness, perseverance, and responsibility.
The courage to begin,
the endurance to go all the way to the end,
and the more you rise, the lower you bow—
when these three come together, the true virtue of Qian is revealed.
4. 건괘에 얽힌 고사 A Story Associated with Qian
「용의 때를 기다리다」
중국 고사에서 **용(龍)**은 군자이자 큰 인물을 상징한다.
그러나 용은 항상 하늘을 나는 존재가 아니다.
- 잠룡(潛龍): 물속에 잠긴 용 — 때를 기다리는 시기
- 현룡(見龍): 세상에 드러난 용 — 재능이 나타나는 시기
- 비룡(飛龍): 하늘을 나는 용 — 사명을 수행하는 시기
- 항룡(亢龍): 지나치게 오른 용 — 교만의 위험
“The Dragon Who Waits for Its Time”
In classical Chinese lore, the dragon (龍) symbolizes the noble person
and great figures.
Yet the dragon is not always a being flying in the sky.
Hidden dragon (潛龍): a dragon submerged in water — a time of
waiting for the right moment.
Appearing dragon (見龍): a dragon revealed to the world — a time
when one’s talents emerge.
Flying dragon (飛龍): a dragon soaring in the sky — a time of fulfilling
one’s mission.
Overreaching dragon (亢龍): a dragon that has risen too high — the
danger of arrogance.
건괘는 말한다.
"용이라도 때를 모르고 날면 스스로를 해친다."
Qian tells us:
“Even a dragon that flies without knowing its time brings harm upon itself.”
5. 건괘의 가르침 The Teaching of Qian
건괘의 가르침은 명확하다.
"강하되 무례하지 말고,
높되 독주하지 말며,
앞서되 시기를 살피라."
진정한 리더, 진정한 창조자는
늘 하늘의 이치를 닮는다.
- 쉬지 않고 움직이되 조급하지 않고
- 힘을 가지되 남을 누르지 않으며
- 성공 속에서도 스스로를 경계한다.그래서 건괘의 군자는
존재만으로도 사람을 밝힌다.
The teaching of Qian is clear:
“Be strong but not rude,
be high yet not domineering,
take the lead, yet always read the timing.”
A true leader, a true creator,
always resembles the Way of Heaven.
They move without ceasing, yet are never hasty;
they possess power, yet do not oppress others;
they remain vigilant even in the midst of success.
Thus, the noble person of Qian
illuminates others by their very presence.

“나는 지금, 날아야 할 때인가
아니면 하늘을 바라보며 준비할 때인가.”
“Is this the time for me to soar,
or the time to look up at Heaven and prepare?”
